Croatia Islands Adriatic Gems

Each one of the Croatia islands has its special beauty and characteristics. Each has its own "most". I will reveal a few of them to you, but I'm sure every one of you will discover at least one island superlative of your own in the Croatian Adriatic. There's really a plenty to choose from.

Island hopping is an easy and affordable way to explore some of the 400 islands scattered along Croatia's coastline. Most of the big ports are near airports, with catamarans and car ferries running daily between most islands. 

The islands' geography makes Croatia's Adriatic coast, a far better for island hopping destination than Greece, where crossings can easily extend even to 12 hours. From my experience, here are my 10 top islands for all lovers of Croatia islands hopping.

Among 1185 islands it's tough to find all islands superlatives. Each island in Croatia has something unique of its own. Every person in this country will speak about them with special pride. Islands are the harmony between the best of man's and nature's creation.

There is a special way of life on the Croatian islands, so different from the mainland, yet so well connected by planes, ships and ferries.

Croatia Islands Superlatives

Jabuka (Apple) island
  • The biggest island in Croatia is Krk island -  409 sq. km. Find it on the map!
  • Even its name is Dugi Otok (Long Island), Hvar island is the longest 51 miles (82 km)
  • The highest island is Brac - Vidova Gora (779 meters) is the highest peak in the Adriatic archipelago.
  • The most forested island is Mljet. More of 72% of its area is covered by woods (Pine)
  • The sunniest island and the sunniest place in Croatia, is Hvar, which enjoys 2718 hours of sunshine per year.
  • Islands Korcula and Hvar are the islands with the highest January temperatures. The average temperature, on Korcula island is 9.0ºC (48,2°F) and on Hvar island 8.7ºC (47,66°F).
  • Island Susak is the island with the most numerous sandy beaches. It’s a sandy island. It makes part of Kvarner bay archipelago.
  • The most secluded islands are Lastovo and Vis.
  • Jabuka (Apple) island is the furthest island on the Adriatic.
