Zadar is connected with Italian port Ancona by car/passenger ferry service, running from Ancona port to Zadar ferry Gazenica port.

Zadar by train

It would be improper not to mention possibility of getting to Zadar by train but honestly speaking, it's the slowest way of traveling. Actually there is only one train from Zagreb to Zadar. I wouldn’t recommend traveling by train to Zadar, the bus is far quicker!

On the way from Zagreb to Zadar, the train stops so many times that the journey turns into a very long travel. There are two trains to Zadar, one at 7:34 AM arriving at Zadar railway station at 14:18 PM (almost sever hours).  There is also a night train with sleeping car at 23:05 PM, arriving in Zadar at 07:24 AP. Getting to Zadar from Split

Traveling by bus between these two cities is the cheapest way. From Split to Zadar you have a myriad number of buses on this route. All buses start from main Split bus station, located at Split harbor.

Be careful when you travel by bus as there are two routes the buses will take from Split. The first one is taking the fast highway route, that takes about 2.5 hours while the route along the coast, the slow route, will take more than four hours, with a numerous stops on the way.

A bus ticket from Split to Zadar costs from 80 to 95 Kuna, plus a small fee for the luggage which varies from the company. The bus will take you to Zadar bus station. In case you are flying from Zadar to your destination, Zadar airport is about 11 km from the city bus station.

You can take a taxi (around 150 Kuna) or a regular bus service to Zadar airport (Zemunik) that charges about 25 Kuna. You can check the time table here !

Is it possible to get by ferry from Split to Zadar? There is no ferry service from Split to Zadar because of considerable distance and time it would take getting to Zadar from Split. It's more attractive to charter a yacht, as many tourist do, planning their vacations on this route.

So, in short, three best options to travel from Split to Zadar (or vice versa) are: take a bus , rent a car or take a private transfer.

Getting to Zadar from Plitvice Lakes NP

If you are visiting Plitvice Lake National Park, it will be useful to know how to reach Zadar from there. During summer season there is quite a few bus departure from Plitvice lakes to Zadar, while during winter season there are fewer buses.

Be warned: There is no bus station at Plitvice Lakes but you can take one on at entrance 1, some also from entrance 2 and Mukinje. If you are traveling from Zagreb to Plitvice Lakes, you can get more information about exact location of the stops to proceed to Zadar.
