It would be improper not to mention possibility of getting to Zadar by train but honestly speaking, it's the slowest way of traveling. Actually there is only one train from Zagreb to Zadar. I wouldn’t recommend traveling by train to Zadar, the bus is far quicker!
On the way from Zagreb to Zadar, the train stops so many times that the journey turns into a very long travel. There are two trains to Zadar, one at 7:34 AM arriving at Zadar railway station at 14:18 PM (almost sever hours). Traveling by bus between these two cities is the cheapest way. From Split to Zadar you have a myriad number of buses on this route. All buses start from main Split bus station, located at Split harbor.
Be careful when you travel by bus as there are two routes the buses will take from Split. The first one is taking the fast highway route, that takes about 2.5 hours while the route along the coast, the slow route, will take more than four hours, with a numerous stops on the way.
