June in Split - A Perfect Period

From my early childhood, I've always considered the month of June in Split as the perfect period for holidays. This month with September is one of the quietest in Split city and nearby islands.

Period of swimming is in full swing and days are getting longer and each day is warmer and warmer. All beaches in Split are open but in June are much quieter, without the usual crowds as in July or August.

June is considered as a high-season announcement, a kind of transition between low and high season. In reality, everything is ready for the upcoming summer season.

Ferry timetable is on high seasonal schedule, covering period from June 2 to 1st of October. In June starts to run all fast catamarans to Dalmatia central islands and also the most popular lines to Korcula and Dubrovnik from Split.

The weather in Split in this month is pleasantly warm but not humid and sticky as it happens to be between mid July to mid August.

The average day temperature is 27 ° C (80 ° F), night time temperature is rather enjoyable around 19 ° C (66,2 ° F) and average monthly sunshine hours are 307 with average 6 to 8 rainy days.

The daylight hours are getting longer and longer in June. For example the shortest day  is June 1 with 15:06 hours of daylight and the longest is June 21 with 15:20 hours.

The average rainfall during June is only 75mm, so it’s unlikely that you’ll need obligatory an umbrella during this month. Usually, you can expect dry, warm and pleasant weather.

Benefits of June in Split

The weather conditions in June are not the only advantages for a pleasant holidays in Split. In this period you'll find Split rather quiet without the usual frenetic Split's harbor traffic, like in July and August.

German and Italian tourists have not yet arrived. Prices are still affordable as hotels haven't yet raised their prices for the peak summer season.

The only thing that can disturb this quiet month are school excursions especially during late May and early June. Hotels and transport around cultural highlights can suddenly fill up with noisy teens.

Old and lively Split center with countless cafes and Riva promenade are inevitable points that can not be neglected. Riva promenade is the best place to see and being seen. Enjoy watching people and order a cup of kava (coffee),an obligatory element of everyday life.

Split museums and galleries are all open for all tourist interested to get to know more about Split history and art.

June outdoor activities

June in Split is a perfect time for all kind of outdoor activities. Apart from traditional walking tours or biking tours with standard or electronic bikes on nearby Marjan hill, June offers all kind of water sports like kayaking around Marjan peninsula all the way to Ciovo island.

If you're interested in a kind of extreme sports, why not trying Cetina river rafting adventure from Split or full adrenaline sport like Marjan hill rock climbing .

If you're a lover of good food and wine, Split is a good place for some foodie and wine tours with sweets and snacks through some Split’s finest foodie hangouts located in and around the Diocletian Palace.

No one will be bored in Split! Although June, in a way, is a kind of announcement for many more important upcoming events, still there are some interesting festivals.

Festival of Popular Music

At the end of June and beginning of July you can take part of very popular music festival. The first festival was held in 1960 at Prokurativa (officially Republic Square). It's an opportunity to get to know the latest Croatian pop stars. More information.

Dani Radunice (Radunica days)

Traditional folk festival has been going on for over two decades, continuing every year in June. Radunica is one of the oldest Split suburbs, and its inhabitants always make the effort to organize an excellent folk festival lasting a couple of days in a row.

Vino u sridu (wine tasting)

This wine tasting exhibition starts in June in Split and it lasts to the end of September. More information you can find on this website !

Connoisseurs of wine can embrace for some top range wine tasting this summer! From week to week, local wine producers will get the chance to promote their sorts to the public across various city venues and restaurants.

Each week one winery will become the main focal point and it’s a great way to meet & greet people with a passion for the fine drop. As their motto states ‘wine is life!’
